The International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) Special Programme for Development of Capacities (SPDC) is expanding its collaboration with IUFRO member institutions in Central Asia in support of strengthening the science-practice linkage through the RFFL Projects in the Kyrgyz Republic and Uzbekistan.

The Resilient Future Forests Lab (RFFL) offers demonstration opportunities to support innovative and goal-oriented solutions to address Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Challenges. In Central Asia the main objectives of FLR are reducing downstream erosion, flooding, massmovements, and sedimentation to enhance livelihoods, quality water supply, and sustainability in general. We do this by developing and testing improved forest regeneration systems including innovative tree species and stock types for planting.

Through the RFFL we do also aim for uncovering conflicts and synergies with other sustainable development targets including protecting and enhancing biodiversity, providing economic, social, and other environmental benefits and resources.
